Watch "Paradise Louisiana" for all the action on Media Day and Tournament Day!

Chris Holmes Post on Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club Forum:

Bull Riding--Grand Isle Style!

It was Christmas in August this morning in Grand Isle with several sleigh rides going on all over Caminada Pass. Hobies, Natives, Oceans, Freedom Hawks and others got to see first hand what the upcoming Ride The Bull kayak tournament is all about.

We were the guest of Captain Danny Wray today for a Press Trip to help get the word out about this unique rodeo. Plenty of photographers were on hand to capture the action on film (ok digital) and video. Look for an article in Sunday’s Baton Rouge Advocate by Joe Macaluso. Joe will also have some video footage on the next episode of Paradise Louisiana.

Just a short paddle from Bridgeside Marina and several of the yaks were into some great bull red action. Today’s thunderstorms didn’t allow us to stay on the water long, but it was long enough to get a good idea of the kind of excitement anglers participating in the rodeo can expect.

All you need is a good anchor- a 10 pound mud anchor or 7 pound blade-type will be sufficient. Some heavy leader and an assortment of egg sinkers will do the trick. The rodeo will be catch-weigh and release so you have a better chance of not harming the reds if you use a large circle hook. A variety of live and dead bait will all entice the big bulls as they cruise through the pass.

The rodeo is shaping up to be a lot of fun with some great prizes, including a Native Mariner Propel kayak as a grand prize.
